Revolutionary Silliness! by Withywindle

A panel from Jojo part 1 where Dio holds up the mask and says "I reject my normality, Jojo!"

(Author’s note: This article was supposed to be published in comic sans so pretend that worked out)

For the most important time in our lives, when we’re growing up and learning to navigate the world, we’re corralled into bland and sterile cells where we are forced to sit down, shut up, face forward, and listen to the adults in power ramble about various subjects and make sure that we memorize it all. Not learn about it, memorize it. We’re not expected to analyze, interact, or ponder the information, just regurgitate it. At the same time, these lectures and drills impose expectations of what is “normal.” How things are, why they are this way, the “normal” ways to navigate the system and change it by participating in it and following its rules. If we were really learning and therefore able to critically look at these lessons, we’d realize how fucking dumb it really is. How doing things “normally” isn’t going to improve our situation or fundamentally alter the systems that keep us down.

Artificial Intelligence: Automation Capitalism and the Contradiction of the C-Suite by Withywindle

The standard narrative of capitalism is that the wealthy elite have earned their station because they are able to sus out the best strategies for maximizing profit gains and cushioning losses. More explicitly stated, the roles of C-level executives are essentially to act as department heads and answer to the CEO who (depending on the company) then answers to the board of directors, who ultimately answer to a gaggle of affluent gamblers and privileged pensioners otherwise known as investors. Ostensibly, C-level executives are supposed to act as glorious leaders of their departments, showing a cunning and shrewd business sense. In reality, it’s just a bunch of bookkeeping and decisions they realistically know little about. Business-speak is a strange language of pageantry and theatrics, where such boring and debatably useful positions of esteem are praised like feudal lords or petty kings. Really anyone can do these jobs and getting one is not unlike the kind of mediæval politicking I joke about.

You Don’t Need Bosses, Cops, or Politicians! by Marion Koshy

Posted on 2024/05/13 - 2024/05/13 by pizzaparker1

Typically, when people are told about anarchism or anarchy in general, they are greeted with images of bombs exploding, unprovoked violence, and scenes from apocalyptic movies and shows. The “strong” reign, and the “weak” are powerless to stop them. The way society is now, but without cops or someone to “protect” people. But this is not what anarchism is about, anarchism is more complex than this simplistic summary. Continue reading “You Don’t Need Bosses, Cops, or Politicians! by Marion Koshy” →

The Public Domain featuring Mickey Mouse by Ridley Temples

Mickey and the public domain.

Mickey Mouse angrily walking with a picket sign that says "Disney unfair"

So Mickey’s old ass versions went into what the cool kids call “public domain” in America recently, meaning anyone can do anything they want with these versions without getting harassed by Disney’s lawyers, maybe anyway. Turns out he’s really popular, you could even say he’s part of popular culture. He’s been in movies, tv shows, on your t-shirt, toys, dishes, hats, schoolbags, and an actual costume worn by a monkey in the 1934 movie “Babes in Toyland” starring Laurel and Hardy.

A Call for Democratic Education Pt 1 by M.M.

Posted on 2024/04/27 - 2024/04/27 by pizzaparker1

The current education system has failed to meet the needs of students, teachers, and society as a whole. One reason for this is the direction the education system has headed. That being in the direction of hierarchy, standardization, and the alienation of learning from the student. This is the wrong direction, and it is captained by those who should have no say in the matter. Administrators, politicians, and directors are all people who are not in the classroom and thus are separated from the very environment they are controlling. Education must become democratic. I do not mean the idea of a “representative democracy.” That is not a democracy. I mean a directly democratic education.
